Or maybe it’s the diverse cultures or the stunning landscapes. Or could it be the delicious street food? No matter what it is, there are a lot of amazing places to visit in Asia – and they’re not all expensive!
Here are 10 of the best cheap countries to travel to in Asia. So pack your bags and get ready for an adventure!
A word of caution before getting started – the average daily budget that I’ll indicate for each country depends on your lifestyle. Of course, while these are cheap countries in Asia, don’t expect to sleep in 5-star hotels for $10 per night. That said, you’ll find your happiness no matter what.
Thailand
Among the most popular and cheapest countries in Asia is Thailand, known for its picture-perfect beaches, temples, and rich culture. Budget-friendly options abound in Thailand, from cheap eats to inexpensive accommodation.
When it comes to transportation, you can save money by taking Songtaews, the public red cars, or calling Grab taxis, the equivalent of Uber, for only a few dollars a ride, including in tourist spots like Krabi or the capital city Bangkok.
The great thing about Thailand is the attractions. There are plenty of free or low-cost options, such as exploring local temples or taking a walk through a nature park. Whether you’re looking for an affordable beach vacation or a cultural getaway, Thailand is an excellent choice.

Although Cambodia is still emerging from a tragic history – including genocide committed by the Khmer Rouge regime in the 1970s – it’s now known for its safety, hospitality, and affordable travel costs.
What I really loved about this incredible country is that there are endless things to do in Cambodia.

Cambodia is a relatively inexpensive place to travel, and it’s possible to get by on a budget of $20 per day. However, if you want to rent a scooter, take a day trip, or eat at a nice restaurant, you’ll need to budget for more like $30-$40 per day.

Although it is not the cheapest country in Asia, especially due to its transportation system, the Philippines offers a good mix of affordable accommodation, food, and activities.
You can find plenty of street food for under $2, and hotels with private rooms start at around $10 per night. The country also boasts some of the most beautiful beaches in the world and fascinating historical and cultural sites. So, if you’re looking for an affordable Asian adventure, be sure to add the Philippines to your list.
Cheapest Places to Visit in the Philippines
The cheapest places to travel in the Philippines are Luzon, Manila, Bohol, and Camiguin. I’d also add Siargao Island to this list, but restaurants and accommodation cost more than average, even if street food is cheap.
It’s worth noting that getting to the Philippines islands can be expensive since you’ll likely have to stop over in Cebu, and flights aren’t that cheap, especially during peak times. However, if you plan to visit 2 or 3 islands and Manila, then you can easily stay here cheaply.
Lastly, when visiting Palawan, you can spend some time in Busuanga Island, which is a cheaper alternative to places like El Nido!

When traveling to the Philippines, you should plan at least $50 per day, including food and transportation. I recommend planning a little bit more if you are planning on taking several day trips. However, overall, for a week in the Philippines, $500 per person is enough to have a great time.
